Penna questions and answers

Penna turns a photo into a printable coloring page on your iPhone, iPad or Android phone; your photo is deleted right after processing, pages print on A4 or US Letter, and you can try it free.

Privacy

Do you keep my photos?

No. Your photo is deleted right after processing. The finished pages and books are saved on your phone, in Penna's Library, and nowhere else. Penna has no accounts, so there is no online profile with your pictures.

Is it safe to use photos of my children?

Your photo is used only to make your page and is deleted right after processing. It is never used for any other purpose, and we never sell your data. If you send us feedback with a picture attached (off unless you switch it on), that picture is deleted within 90 days. The details are in our privacy policy.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no sign-up and no email address to give. Open the app and make a page.

Printing

How do I print a coloring page?

Open the page in Penna and tap Print. Your phone's own print menu opens (AirPrint on iPhone and iPad, the Android print service on Android), so any printer your phone can reach works. You can also save the page to your photos or share it as a PDF and print it from a computer.

What paper sizes does Penna print?

A4 and US Letter. Pages are made at print quality (300 dpi), so the lines stay sharp.

Can I print a whole coloring book?

Yes. Pick your pages in Penna, put them in order and export the book as one PDF. Print it at home, then staple it, punch it into a binder or tie it with ribbon, or take the PDF to a copy shop for printing and binding.

Do I need a color printer?

No. Coloring pages are black and white, so any black-and-white printer is enough. A color printer only matters for a color book cover.

Paper

What paper is best for coloring pages?

Everyday printer paper (20 lb, 75 to 80 gsm) works well for crayons and colored pencils. For markers, use heavier paper of about 28 to 32 lb (105 to 120 gsm) or light cardstock so the ink does not soak through, and print on one side only.

Single-sided or double-sided?

Single-sided is best for markers and paint. For crayons and colored pencils, double-sided printing saves paper and makes a thinner book.

Free and Penna Pro

Is Penna free?

Penna is free to download and to try: 2 pages to start, then 1 new free page every 3 days. Making a book, the PDF, printing and sharing are free.

What does Penna Pro add?

Penna Pro gives you many more pages, from photos and adventures, enough for whole coloring books, and lets you give your coloring books a cover with a title. It is a weekly or yearly subscription; the price is shown in the app before you buy.

Are book covers free?

No. A cover with a title is part of Penna Pro. You can make and print a book without a cover for free.

How do I cancel Penna Pro?

In your App Store or Google Play account, under subscriptions. Cancel before the next renewal date and you will not be charged again.

Phones and tablets

Which phones does Penna work on?

iPhone and iPad with iOS 15 or newer, and Android phones with Android 7.0 or newer. Penna needs an internet connection to make a page.

Which languages is Penna in?

English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, Dutch, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish and Finnish.

Making pages

What makes a good photo for a coloring page?

Good light, a sharp photo and a face that is easy to see. A simple background gives a cleaner page. Pets, family groups and places work too.

Can I put my child into a scene?

Yes. Pick one of 24 adventure scenes, such as a dinosaur ride, outer space or a fire truck, and Penna draws the person in your photo into it. Scenes need a photo with one person in it.

Is Penna an app for kids?

Penna is made for the grown-ups: parents, grandparents, teachers and anyone making pages for someone else. You make the pages on your phone; the children color them on paper.

Who makes Penna?

Penna is made by Moose Media LLC. Questions and ideas are welcome on our support page.
